HKU Launches New Interdisciplinary Course Blending AI, Leadership and Industry Immersion

The University of Hong Kong has launched LINK (Leadership for Innovation Network for Knowledge), a new interdisciplinary course designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application in an era defined by rapid technological change.

The 12-credit programme, which commenced this semester, integrates artificial intelligence, design thinking, entrepreneurship, and leadership development to prepare students for complex professional challenges.

More than 200 undergraduate students from diverse faculties have enrolled in the inaugural cohort. A cornerstone of the programme is its immersive field trips: students will undertake a three-week project execution trip to Shanghai this winter, followed by an immersion experience in Ho Chi Minh City during the second semester.

The launch was marked by a guest lecture from Mr Wilson Fung, CEO of MicroBit Holdings Limited, the course’s corporate sponsor. Speaking at HKU on 16 September, Mr Fung urged students to look beyond technological trends and focus on foundational competencies.

“Do not chase the hype,” he said. “It’s important to build analytical skills and judgment in today’s changing financial world. These are lifelong learning skills that will provide a strong foundation, regardless of the field you pursue after graduation.”

Professor Jay Siegel, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) at HKU, noted the enthusiasm shown by students eager to develop their leadership capabilities.

“I am grateful to see so much enthusiasm among our students who are stepping forward to develop leadership, immerse themselves in this new experiential learning journey at HKU, and grow as future leaders, innovators, and changemakers,” Professor Siegel said.

The LINK programme aims to foster critical competencies through dynamic workshops and hands-on projects. By combining academic rigour with practical industry exposure, the course seeks to cultivate a generation of graduates capable of navigating and shaping the future of work.
