Two HKU graduates named Top 10 Outstanding Tertiary Students of Hong Kong 2026

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) graduates Ms Carina Yu Chin-hang and Ms Kady Wong Ka-hing have been selected as recipients of the “Ten Outstanding Tertiary Students of Hong Kong 2026” award. Professor Kelvin Yeung, Dean of Student Affairs at HKU, commended both students for their outstanding contributions in academic achievement, community service, and youth leadership.

Carina, a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Government and Laws) and Bachelor of Laws double degree program and a current intern at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, shared, “My journey has been defined by a commitment to turning purpose into action. From organising youth-led community service in Hong Kong and mobilising young people to contribute to rural revitalisation in Northwest China, to volunteering in West Africa, I have sought to translate what I have learned into meaningful contributions to society. Rooted in these values, I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition. Looking forward, I strive to contribute to public affairs with a global perspective.”

Kady, a recent Bachelor of Social Sciences graduate, highlighted his commitment to youth engagement and social responsibility: “This recognition carries a sense of responsibility: to continue engaging in youth work, serving Hong Kong, and passing on this commitment to the next generation. Throughout my university years, I have sought to understand and serve different communities through youth engagement, volunteering, policy research and cross-cultural exchange, while HKU’s interdisciplinary education has taught me to approach social issues from different perspectives. As a youth in Hong Kong, I hope to put my commitment by telling authentic and diverse Hong Kong stories, continuing to use my strengths to serve society.”

Professor Kelvin Yeung commended the public recognition of the HKU students, stating, “Their achievements reflect our unwavering commitment to whole-person development. These awardees demonstrate how youth can combine academic excellence with a deep sense of social responsibility, applying their knowledge to make meaningful contributions to the community. I hope they continue to embrace a quest for knowledge and a commitment to service, contributing meaningfully to Hong Kong, the country, and the world.”

Organised by the Hong Kong Youth and Tertiary Students Association, the annual award identifies, honours, and nurtures tertiary students demonstrating excellence in academics, community service, and leadership potential.
