HKU IDay Draws Record 100,000 Visitors, Showcases Three New Undergrad Programmes

The University of Hong Kong welcomed a record-breaking 100,000 prospective students and family members to its annual Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2026 (IDay) on October 24, 2026.

This year's theme, “Shape a More Sustainable World with AI,” highlighted how artificial intelligence is being integrated across HKU's disciplines, from computing and engineering to arts, humanities, business, medicine, law, and science. Attendees explored how the University's programmes equip students with AI literacy and practical skills to contribute to a sustainable future.

Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, was on hand to meet with prospective students. "Our goal at HKU is not to hand you a ready-made map of the future, but to empower you with the courage and capacity to chart your own course through uncharted territories," he said. “We hope you will learn to ask questions that no one has conceived before, and boldly define an extraordinary path that is uniquely yours.”

The University also introduced three new undergraduate programmes planned for the 2027–28 academic year, all subject to approval. They include the Bachelor of Arts Elite Programme, offered by the Faculty of Arts, which provides a flexible interdisciplinary humanities curriculum with pathways to international master's programmes at institutions including the Geneva Graduate Institute and Peking University's Yenching Academy, as well as the Bachelor of Engineering in Robotics Engineering, which features a Hong Kong–Shanghai two-city study roadmap with an emphasis on systems thinking and innovation.

The Bachelor of Social Sciences (Elite), offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences, combines advanced analytical methodologies with a human-centric approach, offering Research and Impact tracks and an accelerated 4+1 pathway to master's-level education.
