HKU Holds Steady at #33 globally, Remains Hong Kong's Top University in 2027 THE Rankings

The University of Hong Kong has maintained its position as the city’s leading higher education institution and secured the 33rd spot worldwide in the just-released 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

The result underscores HKU’s sustained excellence and global competitiveness. The University’s overall score rose from 80.5 to 82.6, an improvement driven primarily by enhanced academic reputation. This upward trajectory reflects the institution’s continued commitment to intellectual rigour and pioneering scholarship.

“The true value of a university lies in its capacity to shape the future,” remarked Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, remarked. “At HKU, our focus is on pioneering new frontiers of knowledge and nurturing the visionary thinkers who will solve tomorrow’s global challenges. We will continue to advance our mission as a leading global institution, driving progress through world-class teaching and research innovation to strengthen our contributions to the betterment of Hong Kong, the nation, and the world.”

In addition to its success in the THE rankings, HKU has been ranked 11th globally and first in Asia by QS World University Rankings.

The University continues to strengthen its academic community, welcoming two Nobel Laureates, Professor Ferenc Krausz and Professor Andre Geim, along with Fields Medallist Professor Ngô Bảo Châu, within the past year.
