HKU and Sciences Po Celebrate a Decade of Collaboration

The HKU-Sciences Po Dual Degree Programme celebrated its 10th anniversary October 13, as dozens of leaders, students, and alumni from both universities came together at HKU’s historic Main Building to reflect on and honour the successes of the past decade.

Established in 2016, the dual degree was a landmark collaboration that offers students the chance to spend their first two years of university at Sciences Po in France, then their last two years at HKU.

Upon successful completion of the programme, students will receive two Bachelor’s degrees, one from each of the universities, with graduates going on to careers in finance, governance, the arts, nonprofits, and academia.

“Ten years ago, HKU and Sciences Po embarked on a bold journey together – at a time marked by uncertainty, complexity, and rapid change – united by a shared commitment and the conviction that education transcends all divides,” said Professor Anderson Shum, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research).

“This Dual Degree Programme was born from a common vision: to empower the next generation of leaders with interdisciplinary insights, practical skills, and a truly global perspective to confront the world’s most pressing challenges.”

Speaking next, Mr Luis Vassy, Director of Sciences Policy, highlighted the diverse educational and cultural experiences offered by the programme, as well as the value of learning to navigate a fast-changing global landscape.

“When Sciences Po and HKU launched this dual degree a decade ago, the world was already rapidly changing,” he said. “Climate change, technological disruptions and shifting geopolitical dynamics require leaders who can think locally and act globally.”

In addition to the representatives of the two universities, speakers also included Ms Johanna Bouyé, French Consul for Education, Science, and Culture, and programme alumnus Mr Nicolas Guinard, an economist at HKMA. Professor Ian Holliday, University Registrar, also attended the event.
