HKU Welcomes UGC Delegation

The University of Hong Kong welcomed a 16-member delegation from Hong Kong’s University Grants Committee on 3 September for an exchange with senior management, faculty members, and students on the University’s latest developments and strategic initiatives in research, innovation, and education.

The delegation, led by UGC Chairman Mr Tim Lui and Secretary-General Professor James Tang, toured several sites, including Tech Landmark, HKU’s latest flagship innovation and research complex, where Professor Xiaobo Yin, Director of Tech Landmark, introduced the project.

They also attended two showcases by the Faculty of Engineering. At the Human-System Interaction and Simulation Laboratory, delegation members took part in an interactive experience with daseCAVE, HKU’s immersive visualisation system for research, education, and industry applications.

Students from HKU’s RoboCPS team then briefed the delegation on advanced robotic systems, followed by a demonstration featuring robotic dogs.

Both events highlighted HKU’s cutting-edge capabilities in robotics, cyber-physical systems and AI, as shown by recent achievements at ABU Robocon and the World Humanoid Robot Games.

At the Arts Technology Lab, the delegation explored how new technologies are transforming research, teaching, and creative practice in the humanities, as well as how HKU is leveraging advances to foster innovation in fields such as the digital humanities and cultural preservation.

During the visit, Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, thanked UGC for its unwavering support for the University and reaffirmed HKU’s commitment to realising its vision to be a world-leading university transforming humanity’s future.
