A Message from Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor

Dear colleagues and students,

We begin this academic year with incredible momentum. Our community is growing stronger, and we are thrilled to welcome some of the brightest minds in the world to our campus – from our top-tier incoming students to world-renowned scholars, including Nobel Laureates and a Fields Medalist.

To build on this momentum as we look to the future, we are forging ahead with a bold vision. We are transforming into a deeply AI-empowered campus through our new "AI Hub", designed to strengthen AI teaching while coordinating AI research and applications across all disciplines. At the same time, we are renewing our deep commitment to the humanities, supporting initiatives that have transformative impact on human society. By bridging technology and tradition, we aim to cultivate well-rounded leaders ready to solve the world’s most complex challenges.

The same momentum is driving us to continuously expand our footprint and global impact. Right here on campus, we welcome our first batch of students to the new High West Student Village, and eagerly anticipate the soon-to-be-completed Tech Landmark. We are also fully committed to supporting the HKSAR Government’s five-year plan to develop the University Town at the Northern Metropolis, which is poised to become the city’s new innovation and technology epicenter. Beyond Hong Kong, we are actively developing our strategic presence in Shanghai and Barcelona, further radiating our influence as a truly global university.

Of course, none of these ambitious plans can be realized without the dedication of our staff and the support of our community and friends. To better care for the colleagues who drive our momentum every day, we are implementing an enhanced staff medical benefits plan. Concurrently, we will continue to revamp our administrative systems and processes, such that the University can advance its plans with maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

We are in a transformative era for our University, and you are at the very heart of it. Let us build on our excellent momentum and, together, reach new heights.
